The Baptist Ministers Conference of Northern Virginia and Vicinity reflects on its past with thanksgiving.
On August 29, 1929 a committed group of nine Ministers were appointed by the Northern Virginia Baptist Association to formulate a plan to organize a Minister’s Protection Alliance. This was accomplished by the committee and by the year 1933 an organization was established under the name ” The Pastor’s Conference”. On Thursday, August 24, 1933 our first president Rev. A.H.S .Johnson brought greetings to the Northern Virginia Baptist Association from the Pastor’s Conference.
Listed below are the founding fathers of the conference:
” Rev. A.H.S. Johnson
” Rev. J.D. Pair
” Rev. N.J. Stotts
” Rev. Oliver Hall
” Rev. William Chambers
The first officers of the conference were:
” Rev. A.H.S. Johnson- President
” Rev. J.D. Pair-Secretary
” Rev. N.J. Stotts- Treasurer
During the formative years the conference met in the Y.M.C.A building in Washington, D.C. This did not prove to be conducive, so the brethren sought a home in Virginia. The First Baptist Church, Rosslyn, VA was recommended and permission was granted.
Thus the Conference began meeting on Virginia soil.
